ABOUT US

The Marlborough Environment Awards began in 1997 after a conversation among staff from Federated Farmers, the Department of Conservation and Marlborough District Council. It was the early days of the Resource Management Act and they were looking for good examples of environmental initiatives that could inspire others.

They came up with the idea of the Awards to recognize businesses and community projects going the extra mile to look after the environment and were happy to share their experience.

The Awards are run by a not-for-profit Trust that includes representatives from the Marlborough Environment Centre, Federated Farmers, The Marlborough Forest Industry Association, Marlborough Winegrowers and the Marine Farming Association. The Council and Department of Conservation are still heavily involved, along with local sponsors.
